This is for the planner, type A, goal setting woman. I know you are in goal setting mode for 2024 but have you ever thought of using your goal setting method for planning your birth? How to take your larger goal of “I want an unmedicated birth” and make it more specific, then backwards plan to figure out what you can do today to help you reach your birth goal.
Step 1: Set your big birth goal and be specific
For example, unmedicated birth is not enough. Instead add in some measurable parameters. An unmedicated birth with no Pitocin, no epidural, and less than 6 hours at the hospital.
Step 2: Look at your goal and list 3-5 smaller goals you NEED to reach your goal
To have a birth like that you’ll need to know all your unmedicated options, find the right provider, advocate for your options and stay home as long as possible.
Step 3: Now work backwards from each smaller goal, list out every step it will take to get there AND how you’ll do it
Actually add these steps into your calendar and routine. The earlier you start the more prepared you will be, birth prep is not something you want to put off until 36 weeks pregnant.
